Kibites

Project Overview

Project Name: KiBites – Protein-Focused Meal Planner & Tracker
Duration: 8 Weeks
Project Type: UX Case Study (Personal Project)
Target Audience: Women aged 25-60 who want to adopt and maintain a protein-based diet.

Overview:
KiBites is a mobile application designed to address the common challenges women face when trying to follow a protein-based diet. This app combines a personalized meal planner, a protein intake tracker, and actionable tips to guide users toward their health and fitness goals. The project focused on creating an intuitive, inclusive, and motivating user experience that simplifies meal planning while encouraging consistency and progress.

Design Process

The design process followed a human-centered approach, with the following key stages:

Problem Definition

Many women aged 25-60 want to adopt a protein-based diet to improve their health, build lean muscle, maintain a healthy weight, and support their overall well-being. However, they often face challenges in starting and maintaining such a diet. Common struggles include not knowing what to eat, how much to consume, and when to plan their meals. They may feel overwhelmed and discouraged without clear guidance, leading to inconsistency and frustration. KiBites aims to solve these pain points by offering a personalized meal planner, real-time protein tracking, and daily tips, empowering users to easily stay on track and achieve their nutritional goals.

User Research

I started developing personas based on research insights.

Created empathy maps and journey maps to understand user frustrations and experiences.

Ideation

  • Generated potential features that address the identified pain points.
  • Prioritized features such as the meal planner, protein tracker, and tips feature.

Wireframes

Designed low-fidelity wireframes for the core app features.

User Testing with Mid-Fidelity Wireframes

To validate design decisions and refine the user experience, I created mid-fidelity wireframes for KiBites and tested them with target users from the 25-60 age group. These wireframes focused on key user flows, including meal planning, adding meals, and tracking daily protein intake. By conducting user interviews and usability testing sessions, I gathered valuable feedback on navigation, functionality, and overall usability. Insights from these sessions revealed areas where users encountered friction, such as understanding how to add meals or interpret protein tracking data. This feedback informed iterative improvements to ensure the app felt intuitive, engaging, and tailored to the needs of women seeking a protein-based diet.

Visual Design

Developed a vibrant, inclusive color palette that balances hunger-inducing colors (orange, red) with calming and accessible tones (purple).

Prototyping

Prototype Highlights:
The KiBites prototype brings the app’s vision to life, showcasing its sleek, user-friendly interface and core features designed to engage and empower users. From the moment users sign up, they’re guided through an inviting onboarding experience that explains how KiBites can transform their protein journey. The prototype features an intuitive flow for adding meals, complete with a vibrant recipe library tailored to dietary preferences and protein goals. The dynamic protein tracker provides real-time progress updates, keeping users motivated with every bite. With its polished design and thoughtful interactions, the prototype captures the look and feel of KiBites, making it easy for users to visualize how this app will simplify and elevate their nutrition journey
